The home entertainment system is a whole new way of seeing films.
Is it overpowering the cinema experience?
Do you still get an experience out of the cinema that you dont want to lose, or would you just rather watch them at home on a DVD when they come out, as more and more people are doing nowadays?

I will always keep going to the cinemas regardless how much home theatre evolves. There is nothing better than watching a great movie on the big screen with full surround sound.

I believe the cinema is not something that you can overtake in your home. The cinema is GREAT. I really dont think that a home entertainment theater can overtake it.

THe magic of attending a film won't ever die out - it's still quite a major social event. THe one that that might end up ruining it is the availability of DVDs now - previously with other technology there was a wait of 6-8 months for a video to come out after it's showing in the cinema. Now, it's 3 months, if not even less for some of the big name titles. I'll always go to the cinema (i am today in fact) to see films - i might buy it when it comes out on general release too but if given the choice, give me a big screen with other people, some good drink and some snacks *is glad he's finally been able to put his Film Studies A Level to use*

lol nice work an A in film studies! Sounds great!
Yea i have to agree even though i do not get to the cinema alot i dont think that home entertainment systems will ever over take the cinema experience mainly cause most people dont have a lounge big enough for that amazingly big screen lol!
I also agree with ATD's comment that how long you have to wait for a film has shortened so much specially with people copying now as well! It can kind of spoil the excitment!

I have to say i haven't been to the cinema for months - i'd rather watch a film at home where i can be sure nobody is going to talk or rustle pop corn bags all the way through it!! pmsl
